Chess Championships

Chess is a competitive skill game, recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Thus, it is not surprising that dozens of chess championships are held every year worldwide. The most important championship in the field is obviously, the World Chess Championship, that runs annually ever since 1886 and crowned World Chess Champions such as Wilhelm Steinitz, Mikhail Tal, Bobby Fischer, Anatoly Karpov and Garry Kasparov.

Other notable international chess championships include the Women's World Championship, the World Junior Chess Championship, the World Computer-Chess Championship and national events such as the FKB US Chess Championship, Asia Chess Championship and the European Individual Chess Championship.
